Wortley Village in Old South was named Canada's best neighbourhood by the Canadian Institute of Planners, and it still feels that way: a walkable village core of cafés, bakeries and independent shops surrounded by Victorian and Edwardian homes on tree-lined streets.
The homes
Semis, singles and the occasional duplex from the 1880s to 1930s, many restored with modern kitchens and rear additions. Lots are narrower than Old North but deep, with mature gardens. Condo townhomes and low-rise apartments sit on the village edges.
Day to day
Everything is on foot: the Wortley Road strip, the library, Thames Park and the Sunday market. The Village is a favourite of young professionals and downsizers who want community without a car.
